History of Bromley Avenue and the surrounding area by Tom Jeffs
Bromley Avenue started life as Victoria Avenue. The avenue ran from
Parsonage road, to the top of what is now Hampstead Avenue, and turned south
to meet with Carrington Road. There was no Bents Lane.

There was a block of 6 houses backing onto the railway line, and a block of
5 houses on the East side of what is now Hampstead Avenue. Another 2 larger
houses also backed onto the Railway line. These houses are still there,
although no longer separated from the rest of the avenue.

Sometime around 1910, the avenue was changed to its current layout, with
what is now Bromley Avenue being called Albert Avenue, and what is now
Hampstead Avenue being called Victoria Avenue. Bents Avenue appears to have
been built around this time (correct me if I'm wrong).

I have a list of all the occupants of these houses, from 2 points in time,
including:

Harry Forth (Furnace Bldr)
Mrs Eliza Norton
Mrs Ethal Brindley
Percy Moores (Traveller)
Jas. Heckett (signalman)
Wm. Thos. Upton (railway foreman)
Joseph Owen
Hubert Nutt (bus conductor) WHERE I LIVE NOW
Jn. Bradshaw (fireman)

All these people must be long dead by now.

Do these names ring any bells? I can let any readers have this information
via email, just contact me on tom.jeffs4@ntlworld.com
