Does anyone know if or when the Deccan Indian Restaurant will re-open?
It closed for 'ten weeks for renovation' in early August and for some time now there has been no work going on whatsoever.
I always think of the Deccan as part of Urmston's very fabric, and should it not open again it will be sorely missed, particularly late on a Friday or Saturday night!
Lets hope it doesn't go the way of the Chef Peking.

I went there last week with the old man. The chicken Tikka Jalfrezi is superb. Not as hot as other places mind, but still extremely tastey. Cobra beer on tap too - what more could you want ;)

Ten of us went last night and it was great to be back at long last. Great food, big portions, lovely decor and helpful friendly staff. Plus a free bottle of wine. Brilliant!

We went to the Deccan on Saturday. Had never been in before. Impressed with refurb. Lovely food but have to say they did not cope well with a full house. Bit like The Keystone Cops serve curry.
It was very funny to watch.....enjoyed my evening.

Called in the Deccan last night for the first time since re-opening, had all my favourites - onion bhajis and chicken chat between us to start, and then chicken madras and chicken tikka karahi, again to share. Madras is still spot on,pure white chicken breast meat. Not quite as keen on the karahi, it was quite a bit different than it used to be. Oh well, will just have to try some more dishes!!! Garlic naan was excellent too.
Decor and service was great. We will soon be back.

I was a little disappointed by the new Deccan last night. It has lost it's old charm and now looks like any other newly refurbished restaurant. The food was average with less chicken than I remember. We took the kids but were told that there was no ice-cream for dessert. Apparently they might have some in next week. I over heard the owner telling one table, 'if it's not on the menu, we will still be able to make it for you.' But another waiter telling a different table, 'sorry, new chef, dishes from the menu only available.' I, like many, have been waiting for the Deccan to re-open and I'm dismayed that it just didn't hit the mark.

Thanks for that Alkeranger - I have been wondering if the madras will still be the same. Will be going in shortly to sample it for myself.

Well done to the Deccan. Was there last night, the place has been completely transformed but glad to say the chicken madras has not changed still the best around, looking forward to going again next week

I called in today and the builders said they were still confident of opening on the 14th.
Whenever it is, its great news and I will be there!

I have just spoken with Mifta, he has postponed opening until April the 21st due to problems with a delivery of kitchen equipment. He sends his apologies and tells me anyone who booked for the 14th their booking still stands for the 21st.

I would imagine if for only nostaligic reasons there will be a rather large queue outside on the opening night plus feelings of guilt after having run away without paying some 30 years ago (LOL). Oh, by the way heres 3 quid for my meal in 1980.

Work was going on this morning on the outside of the building, I think it was on the name sign above the window. There is still the notice on the window saying the opening is on 14th April which has been there for a while.

Back in the day, so many ate at the Deccan and then fled without paying that they got starting blocks put in the foyer!
Seriously though, a great Urmston tradition, and for many, the first experience of Indian cuisine. I must have dipped my first poppadom in my first lime chutney right there.

Me too, I've tried all the others and am usually disappointed, for me the Deccan is the only one worth bothering with.
