Local Solicitors
Topic posted by LC... dated:16 April 2007
Can anybody recommend a good local solicitor. We are moving house very soon and will need a solicitor. We are aware that there is a lot in Urmston, but were looking on here for advice of people who may have moved home recently and used a local solicitor who they would not hesitate in recommending.

I am also looking for good local solicitor for house conveyancing; so any update on these recommendations and those I shouldn’t touch with a bargepole would be really helpful.

Otherwise, I will have to resort to throwing a dart at the yellow pages again.

Thanks!

I think it's worth ringing around for fees as they change drastically, I am moving house shortly and telephoned several in the area and the fees differed by £700, seems rip off as they only do same paperwork as each other.

I could mention a firm that I wouldn't touch with a barge pole, but due to legal constraints I wont! What I will say is that I used to work for them, and the amount of complaints that we had to delve through on a daily basis was unbelivable!!

Be very wary when choosing a solicitor!!! They have the ability to make things go very wrong indeed!!

We used Michael Taylor and Company on Crofts Bank Road and they were great for us.

David Carter hughes at Bannister Preston in Irlam is fab, we moved last week and he was very good, very quick at getting paperwork, monies through etc.

I won't name which one on here because no doubt Dave would not post it, I know he has standards for posting, but we personally have had very bad experiences with one of the Urmston legal firms. We were left 'between' homes for three days (ie homeless) due to a 'legal hitch' and incurred three days storage costs for ALL our wordly goods, hotel bills, cost of clothes etc as we had no belongings at all, plus paying for removals twice - once on moving day and then again three days later when the glitch was finally sorted.
Please beware, it was an extremely stressful and upsetting experience.

I have always used Hague Lambert - think they are on Primrose avenue now, they used to be near the HSBC bank. Very profesional and friendly.

Edward Michell at Slater Hellis Collier and Littler, in the old police station. Very thorough and always willing to explain. Used him for our move and it all went through in 12 weeks start to finish.
